July 29, 2023: Pickleball at Night! (Day +122)

Saturday, July 29, 2023 · by kathy howe

who knew there was this entire ecosystem of Pickleball playing at night in Palo Alto?!?!?! Our friend Paige did!  And since Sam can’t go out in the sunlight, this was an awesome way to get some exercise and have some fun — and Zack came too!

Max and Sam are wearing their beanies (Sam gave that one to Max ❤️) and we got to meet Max’s sister and paternal grandparents, who were in from Kansas. Zac’s dad was also a middle school science teacher during his career so we bonded over that (and then went on to be a principal and the superintendent!) (Zac is Max’s dad so we also had the “Zac(k) attack” when they played on the same team 😂)

Love having their family in our lives now. Cancer is a shitty hand to play but it’s made all the better by playing it with friends like the Cooks and the Allies. 👊🏼

Ps. I submitted the #TeamSam shirt order this week so if you ordered, you should be getting yours around August 10 (the day after school starts here in Palo Alto :).

Pickle ball is huge here too. The tennis courts at the park across the street from our high school have been permanently changed to pickle ball courts. There is always a line of people waiting to play at all hours!

We love pickleball at Mitchell park. So glad to see he found a way to get out and have some fun.
