March 20, 2023: First Conditioning treatment

Monday, March 20, 2023 · by kathy howe

They knew they had a teenager coming today as the radiation machine has a small screen so Sam can watch Netflix! 🤯. They were even able to queue up his show but I think it was an episode he’s already watched. But it got him to smile and laugh a bit so we are off to a good start!

He will get 2 sessions with this machine today and will get some chemo in the middle too so today may be challenging as we move through it. And this gets repeated tomorrow and Wednesday.

And he’s been feeling so good on the blina — so hopefully this isn’t a sharp turn into crappy side effects land.

He’s a strong, steady as she goes minded human so I know he will navigate this with that grace and strength that has gotten him this far and will see him through to the other side. ❤️❤️

Hooray for Netflix, wonderful parent support, and a good mindset. Love y'all!

Netflix recommendations - Susan and I have enjoyed "Outer Banks". Plot is ridiculous, kind of a teenage "Goonies", but good, escapist fare. Teenage boy might enjoy it, if you know what I mean...

You're the best, Sam!
Also, will Sam have his phone on him during his sessions if we want to send him messages or even just funny memes :)

He has it pretty much non-stop while he’s in the hospital but for the actual hour he’s getting the radiation, he can’t have it. the timing for radiation is 7:15 am our time (PDT) to 8:45 am or so and then again from 1:00 - 2:30 pm or so today, tomorrow and Wednesday. After wednesday, all the medicines/treatment will be given in his room.

Sam, we’ve never met but we both loved dearly the same person, your sweet grandmother ,Eleanor Howe.I’m married to her nephew, Chip Morgan. She would be so very proud of how you are handling going through this and believe me you would just be covered up in her homemade cookies, cinnamon rolls and anything else you asked for. Please know you have lots of Georgians pulling for you and praying for your full recovery. Mary Morgan

This is just the best image you have evoked in your post, of Sam happily swimming in a mountain of delicious baked goods made with grandmotherly love.

Thinking about you all so much this week, and trusting that all your preparation, Sam’s strength and kickass attitude, and the tsunami of love and support from friends and family will surf you through this coming storm and on to the calm sandy shores of recovery. Go go go!!!
