October 28, 2022: 4 months

At about this time, 4 months ago, I started realizing something wasn’t right with Sam. He’d just gotten home from CAMP the day before and he had spent the day with his BFF Alec working out at the YMCA. He sent John this photo of his right cheek where the tiniest of spots wouldn’t stop bleeding.

I thought it was caused by him taking Advil for >10 days (for his broken wrist).

It wasn’t.

We are 1/9th the way into our marathon. Grateful for Sam’s response to the medicine so far and for the excellent treatment he’s gotten at LPCH and for all of you following this journey and lifting us up with your “likes”, your comments, and your friendship/family.

Sam is so fortunate to have such a loving, attentive family of folks who are determined to end this madness and restore him to his healthy, youthful self. Yay for you, Kathy, John and your big, loving circle of family and friends.

Wow - I hadn't seen that cheek picture before. I can't believe it's been four months. It feels much longer than that. Sam and your whole family have been so inspiring in the way you are tackling this health crisis. We are all rooting for you and feel grateful for the excellent health care and deep family support he is getting. xxoo Jen

I hadn’t posted it before. These 2 photos, plus the bruise on his arm from the PICC line, are the most jarring for me.
