Sam celebrated his 17th birthday in the hospital this year — not our first choice but he made the best of it. The nurses celebrated him with a huge card and the Child Life team brought balloons.  Most importantly, we got another day pass for Zack to come visit. 

And also most importantly, Sam’s friends came to visit him. Thanks to his soccer mate A for coming in the morning; to another A for bringing his favorite food for lunch and for R, D and G for hanging out (and for giving me a much needed laugh as they got lost finding the hospital so I had to go outside and find them (and give them a little shit too :). 

Also, thanks to our dear friend Chun Hua for bringing homemade Chinese food and a gift for Sam.

If you’re going to get stuck in the hospital for your birthday, it’s good to have all these people who have your back. ❤️
