Day -9: Not a slow start
Tuesday, March 21, 2023 · by John Lilly
The good news is that Sam's first day went as everyone expected it would.
The challenging news is that radiation therapy is rough. Sam doesn't complain much, but did have some opinions about today. With 2 sessions of radiation and now starting on a drug called ATG that will kill most of his T-cells by tomorrow, his body is definitely reacting strongly. He's pretty nauseous, and very tired. But we're trying to conceptualize, as much as we can, that this is all killing whatever cancer remains in his body.
Kathy's there with him now, and reports that he's quieter after a few rough hours. Hoping they both get some sleep tonight; back for another round of radiation in the morning, and Kathy's first session of apheresis.
Difficult, but progress.
